Confiable, abierto, flexible, innovador e independiente: así es Milestone Systems

Cuando mencionan la palabra tecnología, es muy fácil que las personas piensen en aparatos novedosos con funciones que facilitan las acciones diarias, sin embargo se sabe que el concepto va mucho más allá, por eso es necesario asimilar el impacto que ésta genera en las personas, así como lo afirma el experto en nuevas tecnologías Nicholas Negroponte: «Cualquier tecnología unida a la ciencia produce un cambio en la forma de vivir y de entender la realidad. En los últimos años se ha producido un intenso y acelerado conocimiento del universo y además la tecnología ha permitido la transformación de este mundo y de los propios seres humanos».

Todo lo anterior nos sirve para entender lo complejo que fue para Juan Carlos George, Gerente de Ventas para Latinoamérica de Milestone Systems en 1999 que las personas entendieran lo interesante que era pasar de la tecnología análoga a tecnología IP y empezaran a comprar la idea de una compañía que recientemente nacía con un nuevo software.

Efectivamente, esto fue lo que ocurrió con Milestone Systems, la compañía danesa que se fundó en 1998 como líder global en el mercado del software de gestión para plataformas abiertas de vídeo vigilancia IP, durante su ingreso a la región.

Fue curioso que en 1999 en una de las primeras ferias, la primera versión donde las primeras cámaras IP eran AXIS, esa idea de IP la estábamos tratando de impulsar. Era un ‘mini-mercado’ difícil por todo el arraigo que traíamos del análogo”, menciona Juan Carlos.

Y añade: “Sí me acuerdo lo que era viajar con computadoras, con CPU’s, pero al final era el trabajo, era a veces complicado viajar con tantas cosas y equipos y más porque necesitaba la computadora para mostrar la aplicación. Llegué a viajar con muchas cosas, ¡no había de otra!”.

Así fue avanzando la Industria en la región

Juan Carlos cuenta que a partir de 2003 fueron creciendo en la región. “Fue una labor mía y un par de años después empezó Andrés Ordoñez conmigo, ya comenzamos a crecer en México y Centroamérica, a tomar mayores responsabilidades y a avanzar”.

En la actualidad, Milestone tiene una oficina en México la cual cuenta con personal de post-venta que están enfocados hacia Latinoamérica aunque también sirven a Estados Unidos y tiene presencia en las diferentes regiones; Centroamérica, El Caribe, la región Andina, Cono Sur y Brasil que se maneja de una forma diferente.

Milestone ahora hace parte del Grupo Canon quien adquirió la compañía en 2014, pero funciona como independiente dentro de dicho grupo, es decir: “Seguimos teniendo nuestra estrategia, nuestra operación en cierto momento, sin embargo la información va hacia el Grupo Canon”, afirma Juan Carlos George.

Una tecnología abierta y flexible

Juan Carlos menciona que el objetivo de la compañía es seguir teniendo muchos socios de negocios, por ejemplo de cámaras. “Tenemos alrededor de 100 marcas y 4 mil dispositivos soportados”.

“La plataforma XProtect ofrece una potente capacidad de vigilancia que es fácil de gestionar, fiable y ha sido probada en miles de instalaciones de clientes en todo el mundo. Compatible con la más amplia variedad de hardware de red y con opciones de integración con otros sistemas”

Milestone tiene más de 420 empleados a nivel mundial y 18 oficinas alrededor del mundo.

ROIFI, los pilares de la compañía

Los valores corporativos son esenciales para que los empleados tengan una cultura corporativa y esta se vea reflejada en lo que la empresa produce, en el caso de Milestone, tienen un concepto interno llamado ROIFI (Siglas en inglés): Reliability (confiabilidad),  Openness (apertura), Innovation (Innovación), Flexibility (Flexibilidad), Independence (Independencia).

“Tratamos que las personas, los productos, la forma de ir al mercado, todo esté basado en esto, tratamos de ser confiables con los clientes y los partners, ser flexibles y crear nuevas cosas, nuevas funciones; que las soluciones ayuden a moverse; y la independencia para que puedan utilizar la mejor solución, Milestone es y se basa en esto”, argumenta Juan Carlos.

Resultados en 2016 y proyección 2017

Según Juan Carlos George, este año ha sido difícil,  “gracias a Dios nos ha ido bien porque hemos estado trabajando en ello, pero nadie puede negar las dificultades económicas del 2016”.

El Gerente de Ventas para Latinoamérica de Milestone expresa que todas estas dificultades  han sido debido al tipo de cambio, las elecciones en Estados Unidos, cambios políticos en varios países, entre otros factores. “Creo que el próximo año va a ser complicado, vienen cosas difíciles en México y Brasil por ejemplo, pero creo que al final existirán posibilidades que de alguna forma nos permiten seguir avanzando, no como nos gustaría, pero creo que de alguna manera, siguen mejorando”.

Finalmente, comenta que: “Milestone Systems seguirá siendo la solución abierta; queremos apoyar la región, avanzar y crecer. Ver hacia adelante”.
