En los segmentos del mercado de personalización de tarjetas de identificación y financieras se está adoptando la tecnología especializada de inyección de tinta para una amplia variedad de aplicaciones en dos áreas de implementación fundamentales. La primera de dichas áreas es un nuevo segmento de organizaciones ubicadas en la gama económica y media del mercado interesadas en la simplicidad, asequibilidad y facilidad de uso que brindan estas impresoras por inyección de tinta. La segunda es en aplicaciones industriales de alto volumen donde se busca una producción más rápida de tarjetas con mayor resolución, una implementación modular flexible y un menor costo total de propiedad (TCO).
En esta oportunidad examinaremos la primera área de implementación, en la cual los avances de la tecnología de inyección de tinta han puesto la personalización segura de tarjetas de identificación al alcance de la pequeña y mediana empresa, así como de organizaciones que probablemente no se habían interesado antes en una solución de emisión de credenciales. Numerosos avances están permitiendo a estas organizaciones aprovechar los beneficios de la personalización segura de tarjetas de identificación.
Un nuevo tipo de inyección de tinta
Históricamente, las organizaciones pequeñas se han mostrado reacias a emplear la personalización segura de tarjetas en aplicaciones como credenciales corporativas y de visitantes, identificaciones de estudiantes y profesores, o tarjetas de regalo y de fidelización. Su renuencia obedece en gran medida al hecho de que tienen que elegir entre las complejas impresoras de cinta con impresión directo a la tarjeta (DTC, por sus siglas en inglés) y su tecnología de sublimación de tinta, y las impresoras de inyección de tinta que utilizan etiquetas adhesivas de papel. Para que la tecnología funcionara con tarjetas de PVC (cloruro de polivinilo) de línea comercial fue necesario un nuevo método que contempla el uso de tintas especializadas que se adhieren de forma natural al inventario de tarjetas estándar.

Los beneficios de este nuevo método de inyección de tinta térmica son significativos. Reemplazar las cintas de impresión por cartuchos de tinta que se acoplan a presión no solo simplifica el uso y el mantenimiento, sino que evita el desperdicio de todo un kit de paneles de cinta para cada diseño de tarjeta de identificación, ya que la tecnología de inyección de tinta gota a gota (DOD, por sus siglas en inglés) expulsa las gotas del cabezal de impresión solo cuando es necesario. Estas impresoras de inyección de tinta y sus tintas especialmente formuladas e intrínsecamente resistentes a los rayos UV también permiten obtener imágenes, textos y códigos de barras de mayor calidad, durabilidad y resistencia a la decoloración que las tarjetas impresas producidas con tecnología DTC, incluso sin necesidad de instalar costosos sobrelaminados protectores.
Aspectos que se deben tener en cuenta
La consideración más importante acerca de las soluciones de personalización seguras que funcionan con inyección de tinta es que deben adaptarse a la mayoría de tarjetas estándar (PVC) para la impresión de una sola cara de tarjetas por inyección térmica de tinta, entre otras, PVC laminado para la elaboración de tarjetas de crédito. Para optimizar su utilidad, la impresora debe ofrecer una impresión de tarjetas de identificación de borde a borde de alta calidad y alta definición, a diferencia de las impresoras con tecnología DTC convencional que a menudo deja un margen blanco alrededor de los bordes.
Los usuarios necesitarán una resolución de inyección de tinta de 600 x 1200 DPI para imprimir imágenes nítidas y brillantes, además de texto y códigos de barras bien definidos. Al considerar el costo de una solución de personalización de tarjetas de inyección de tinta, es importante que los usuarios tengan en cuenta que un solo cartucho de tinta puede emplearse para producir cientos de tarjetas más de lo que es posible con las cintas de impresión, dependiendo de la complejidad del diseño de la tarjeta. Finalmente, es importante tener en cuenta atributos de la impresora como la facilidad de implementación y uso, el espacio que requiere y características prácticas como el hecho de tener la alimentación y la salida de tarjetas en el mismo lado de la unidad. Optar por la función de un lector de codificación de tarjetas sin contacto también permite a las organizaciones crear tarjetas que se puedan utilizar en aplicaciones de control de acceso, ventas sin efectivo en máquinas automáticas, control de asistencia y tiempo de trabajo, programas de fidelización y regalos y tarjetas financieras que utilizan códigos QR.
La pequeña y mediana empresa antes tenía muy pocas opciones para la emisión de credenciales personalizadas, pero la llegada de impresoras de inyección de tinta térmicas muy especializadas han fijado un nuevo punto de referencia en asequibilidad del precio y facilidad de uso.
